At Affinity Electric’s residential electricians are bringing light to homes with beautiful spaces, and we recently took on a lighting project in the mountain town of Larkspur, Colorado. We helped a homeowner who wanted to replace an existing large chandelier in their foyer with a one-of-a-kind elk antler chandelier. Not too many homes have an elk antler chandelier! As is the case with many residential foyers, the chandelier that we were to replace was suspended at about 12 feet off the ground. The chandelier was also heavy so replacing it came with some inherent safety issues which are best left to professional residential electricians. However, the new light fixture had to be installed and was truly the perfect centerpiece for their rustic-inspired home. Here’s how we tackled this exciting challenge!
Step 1: The Initial Assessment
When it comes to chandelier replacement projects, our team always starts by listening to the homeowner’s needs. With a foyer chandelier we ask for height measurements ahead of our arrival so we have the right size ladder for the job. Upon arrival we evaluate the existing chandelier setup, check the dimensions, and consider the overall weight and size of the new elk antler fixture to make sure it will work. This new chandelier was larger in width but somewhat lighter in weight and was going to use the existing chain to suspend it from the ceiling.
Step 2: Safely Removing the Old Chandelier
Removing a large chandelier can be tricky, especially one in a high foyer. With the help of our experienced team, we made sure to carefully disconnect and lower the old chandelier, keeping safety at the forefront. Our ladder was the perfect height to reach the 12-foot height and to handle the weight and size of the fixture with precision.
Step 3: Preparing for the New Chandelier
Sometimes we run into very heavy chandeliers which require a custom mounting solution but for this light fixture we could use the old mounting system and wiring. With rustic décor in mind, we also adjusted the wiring and placement to ensure that the chandelier hung perfectly centered in the foyer, adding an inviting glow to the entire entryway.
Step 4: Installation and Final Adjustments
Installing the elk antler chandelier was the most rewarding part of the process. Our team meticulously positioned each antler to ensure the chandelier was both balanced and aligned. After securely mounting the chandelier, we wired it to the existing electrical setup, testing each bulb to make sure it provided the warm and natural lighting effect our client envisioned.
Step 5: The Final Reveal
Once installed, the chandelier transformed the entire foyer. The earthy, rustic look of the elk antlers brought a unique Colorado charm to the home, capturing the beauty of Larkspur’s natural surroundings. Our client was thrilled with the outcome, and we couldn’t be happier to bring their vision to life.
